Town seeks public input for Shem Creek Park |

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (August 18, 2009) – Mount Pleasant Mayor Kruger Smith and Mount Pleasant Town Council would like to hear from residents before adopting a plan that will shape the nature of Shem Creek for generations to come. Following a presentation by Thomas and Hutton Engineering at the August Town Council meeting, elected officials plan to host a public meeting to receive comments and suggestions on the Master Plan for Shem Creek Park. The public meting will take place on Tuesday, August 25, from 5:30 – 8:00 pm, at the Town Hall Gym, 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant.
From 5:30 to 6:30 pm, the public meeting will follow a drop-in format with informational stations describing the master plan and offering comment cards. Thomas and Hutton Engineering staff will give a formal presentation from 6:30 to 7 pm. A presentation was given at the August 14 Town Council meeting and can be viewed online at www.townofmountpleasant.com prior to the public hearing. Break-out stations will take place from 7 to 8 pm to answer questions, and take comments. A report will be provided to Town Council as a result of comments given on August 25.
The proposed Master Plan for Shem Creek Park includes the former OK Tire Store and the Bailey docks. The plan includes additional parking, restrooms, interpretive art describing the history of Shem Creek, boardwalks, scenic viewing areas, a commercial fishing dock, a town dock for recreational boaters, a sailing school.
