MISSION STATEMENT

The Mount Pleasant Police Department will provide traffic safety education to the youth of our community who are becoming new drivers. Our primary goal is to reduce the number of traffic collisions and traffic related fatalities utilizing historical information, along with practical situations and interactions that will serve to educate and protect youth who are learning their driving skills.

This program will improve the driving knowledge of our youth and specifically promote a positive relationship between programs participants and the law enforcement community. The KIDS Program will focus on drivers’ responsibilities and requirements to safely operate a motor vehicle.

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM

For individuals 18-24 years of age, the leading cause of death is traffic collisions. This program will target potential drivers before they receive their driver’s permit or license as well as those who have recently received their permits and licenses.

Officers will educate the students on the responsibilities of operating a motor vehicle to prevent these students from becoming deadly statistics.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the KIDS Program, each student will develop knowledge that is critical for successful operation if a motor vehicle. Topics to be discussed include:
Licensing requirements
Traffic safety
Motor Vehicles laws
Effects of alcohol and drugs
